On Saturday, I enjoyed a beautiful day with a precious friend, Wendy, at the Kingwood Music Festival. Wendy and I are both survivors of domestic violence.
People who haven’t experienced something like that are prone to judge and condemn, but when you’ve walked through it, you have compassion for each other because you know both the vulnerability you experienced and the life of victory you desire and strive to live toward.
It’s a very heavy thing to desire, love, but to be hated more than you were loved by someone who did not intend your good but your harm and continued doing so long after you left the relationship.
People outside of circumstances like this often have no idea what a victim of domestic violence bears, but we carry the weight of it for many years long beyond the relationship. I’ll never forget the day that someone told me, “Wow! You’re still alive? We thought he had killed you.” I wondered how they stood by and did nothing.

As I sit here with my dear friend, listening to this memorable music on a Saturday in April while the birds are singing and the sky is blue, I feel so grateful for the beauty of fullness of life and that I get to enjoy it.
A question I have that crosses my mind when I think when I meet people is: are you living to die or are you dying to live? That is the choice that changes everything.
I’ve known many people who are just going through their lives day after day, waiting for one day or someday that things will get better more meaningful more beautiful more hopeful… But what if today is the day and you’re waiting on your life or you’re waiting on God or you’re waiting on circumstances, but the truth is your life your circumstances and God are all waiting on you?! Waiting on you to choose life and to choose life to the full fullest.
Today can be a beautiful day. The choice is yours. What will you choose?
